Domestic weather stations

We all have an observer or a weather man inside, we live in a meteorophilic country, everyone understands clouds, rain and storms to the point that meteorology has become dialogue of elevator, neighbors, work, etc.

The curiosity to know the temperature, external humidity, atmospheric pressure, etc. is tremendous and who else or who has a thermometer installed at home. But well, the digital era has arrived in the world meteo and a good part of those analog thermometers have been replaced by digital equipment, with a console or screen inside the house and an exterior sensor.

A domestic digital weather station is made up of a central unit or console and an outdoor sensor, with a wireless connection via radio waves between these two elements.

The internal control panel is responsible for displaying internal and external data on an LCD screen, which can sometimes be backlit. This indoor device usually informs us of the indoor temperature, indoor humidity, time, date and other variables such as the moon phase, the weather forecast and atmospheric pressure. It is also responsible for processing and displaying external data, which is usually summarized in temperature and humidity.

The outdoor sensor is installed in an external location, at a maximum distance between about 30 and 100m from the indoor unit. It has to be installed in a place where it is not touched by the sun or away from a wall or wall that receives direct solar radiation. This will give us real temperature values and not influenced by any foreign heat emitter.

Radio-controlled clock: With this function the clock is directly coordinated with the European time offered by Frankfurt. With this connection, the watch automatically sets time and also recognizes winter and summer time automatically.

Weather forecast: It is closely related to the trend of atmospheric pressure on the surface. In a marked descent of pressure it will mark rain and in a marked or stable rise it will mark good weather or sun. In our latitude, many times the weather does not just correspond to the evolution of atmospheric pressure, therefore this information can be misleading for mid-latitudes, for example the entire Mediterranean, instead it will be more realistic in more Atlantic and northerners. So remember, if the symbol doesn't match the current situation, your station doesn't go wrong.

Atmospheric pressure: Those stations that incorporate this variable will inform you of the current atmospheric pressure and its evolution in the last 12 or 24h. The pressure can be shown in a reduced way at sea level or in an absolute way, this configuration is adjusted from from the menu.

The digital age is evolving rapidly and one day smartphones and mobile devices appeared. Turning a smartphone into a weather station was only a matter of time, and this came with stations like Netatmo and BL from Skywatch JDC. The mobile acts as a screen or data center, while the sensor or external sensors collect the information of the different variables. The wi-fi or bluethoot system acts as a vehicle for communication between sensors.
