Celebrating 90 years of a commercial establishment today has a major merit. Few stores resist the passage of time, times, crises and the evolution of the commercial and services sector. Specialization makes the difference and it is precisely this unique value that has allowed RAIG to reach 2016 with the same spirit as that of distant 1926.
For once we will leave the scope of the store, to celebrate these 90 years in a privileged environment. The Barcelona Observatory Fabra holds the honor of being one of the reference meteorological observatories in Catalonia, Spain and Europe. More than 100 years of uninterrupted climatic series (1904-2016) , together with an astronomical observatory that dates back to the beginning of the 20th century, in a Barcelona in full development and with an effervescent scientific spirit.
The Observatori Fabra will host a unique evening, with workshops on optics, meteorology and astronomy . The workshops will stop being a simple sample of the products that RAIG can offer, to become a special setting where the participants will be able to learn and experiment with them.
Hours: 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
The workshop will consist of two different parts:
The first of these is a visit to the meteorological observation instruments that are installed at the Fabra Observatory. These are official instruments that supply data to the Meteorological Service of Catalonia and the State Meteorological Agency. The beginning of the observations in the Fabra dates back to 1904, establishing one of the longest climatic series in all of Catalonia without interruption. (From 1904 to 2016). This part will be conducted by Alfons Puertas , the official meteorological observer of the Fabra Observatory.
The second part is a workshop on cloud observation, signal weather forecasting and climatology in Barcelona. They will be taught to identify the types of clouds present at that moment, what they mean and how they help us make a prediction in the short and medium term. We will talk about the climate of Barcelona and how the orography and the sea determine its behavior, with curiosities and peculiarities of each area. This part will be conducted by Sergi Corral . RAIG worker, BCN-Sant Andreu meteorological observer and member of the Catalan Association of Meteorological Observers.

RAIG takes us, with the collaboration of Swarovski Optik , different activities to discover the world of Digiscoping and nature observation in the spectacular setting of the Fabra Observatory.
The session will begin with a talk by Marcos Lacasa where he will introduce us to the secrets and basic concepts of Digiscoping.
Then there will be a physical demonstration where the different materials of the brand will be tested: binoculars, ground telescopes and Digiscoping accessories; The entire workshop will be supervised by Swarovski and Raig technicians, who will give us all the necessary explanations to become experts in nature observation .
One of the most attractive points of the session will be the photo contest , where the participants will be able to demonstrate to the public the Digiscoping techniques learned in the practical session and the winner will receive an excellent reward ... Enjoy a unique opportunity to test the quality of all its products and receive expert advice on site.

Hours: 10:30 p.m. to midnight
Once night falls in the city of Barcelona and after enjoying a good aperitif, the astronomical observation workshop will begin. Before entering directly into the field of observation, a brief visit will be made to the astronomical facilities of the Observatori Fabra and we will be able to see the magnificent telescope and the entire system of the dome.
Then you will access the panoramic roof of the observatory, where the Celestron technical team will help us with the necessary equipment for observation: telescopes and astronomical binoculars . There will be a complete session of astronomical observation, from a point in the city where light pollution does not affect us as much when it comes to discovering the secrets of the stars. The GOTO operating system, present in the new generations of telescopes, and its differences with the manual monitoring and observation system will be explained.
