What binoculars do I take on a trip?

June 23, 2018
Holidays are here and we want to take some travel binoculars, what options do we have?
What binoculars do I take on a trip?
Compact and lightweight

One of the most essential conditions when traveling is to minimize luggage weight and volume. If we are normally already loaded with clothing and all the basic accessories, an accessory element such as a binocular will seem to us an excessive load, therefore we will have to choose the most compact possible.

Compact binoculars are those that include openings between 25 and 32mm, with the possibility of 7.8 or 10X magnification. They weigh less than 500gr and are easily transported in a small case. They are ideal to go around the city and the country, even if we go to a cultural event.

As in all binoculars, we must choose between three optical treatments, the basic, low dispersion or high definition. The more refined the optical treatment, the better the image quality and the more versatility in all environments and conditions.

Travel and nature

Today there are many people who take advantage of or even plan their vacations around nature. Hiking, trekking, guided visits to natural areas, safaris etc ... are booming options and where a good binocular clearly makes the difference.

For this need we need binoculars that offer us the maximum benefits, even in difficult environmental conditions, such as low light, cloudiness, fog, etc. For this reason we recommend that they meet 2 conditions:

  • Opening equal to or greater than 32mm
  • Optical treatment equal to or greater than low dispersion or ED

They are a bit more bulky and heavier binoculars, although brands and manufacturing today have tended to design increasingly powerful and lightweight binoculars. If we want to observe fauna or flora in detail we recommend binoculars of 10 to 12X magnification, if on the contrary we want to see more field and landscape, then we will have 8X binoculars, which will also give us more light.

For specialists and the most demanding

It can also happen that the trip is for work or scientific purposes or that we want the highest quality so as not to miss any detail on a dream trip.

There is a particularly demanding course, bird watching or birding. Trips expressly organized for this purpose or for scientific studies. To this end, the recommendation is to use binoculars treated with high definition and if we are even more demanding, high definition with fluorite.

The most refined optical treatment has been extended to all types of binoculars, from the compact range to the highest volume binoculars. Thus we have many options to choose from and that will not disappoint us.
