Refractometers are optical instruments which serve to determine the
concentration of certain substances from the
angle of refraction of light, when passing through these liquids.
In this case, the
Milwaukee range of refractometers will measure the
concentration of salt (NaCl) in the marine, brackish or fresh water environment. This procedure is key in controlling water conditions for
aquariums and aquaculture .
The concentration can be measured in different units or scales:

It incorporates
automatic temperature compensation , between 10 and 40ºC and
temperature measurement in a range of

The
precision is much higher than in analog optical refractometers, and is located at +/- 2PSU, +/- 2ppt, +/- 0.002 specific gravity and +/- 0.3ºC. The reading is displayed on a practical
LCD screen and the equipment incorporates a
9V alkaline battery that reaches 5000 readings.
