The Italian brand Optika , has designed a range of inverted biological microscopes for routine and advanced research. Inverted microscopes are used for observation of living cells in as natural a medium as possible, this means that observation is often done in containers such as petri dishes or beakers. With this type of microscope, samples of water, algae, bacteria, blood and other living things that live in aqueous or liquid medium can be observed.
Each of the models adapts to different techniques, such as bright field, phase contrast, fluorescence or polarization . Contains the following models:
  • IM-2 - Observation in bright field and phase contrast.
  • IM-2 ERGO - Observation in bright field and phase contrast with ergonomic head.
  • IM-3 - Observation in bright field and phase contrast.
  • IM-3 MET - With polarization filter for metallurgy.
  • IM-2 FL - Observation with 1-position epi-fluorescence, phase contrast and bright field.
  • IM-3 FL -Epi-fluorescence observation of 2 filter positions.
  • IM-3 FL4 - Epi-fluorescence observation of 4 filter positions.
  • IM-3LD : Observation in bright field and epi-fluorescence of 2 filter positions.

The head is trinocular in all models, with the possibility of tilting at 30º or 45º depending on the model, except the IM-2ERGO, which has an inclination range between 5-35º. The head includes 2 extra wide field EWF 10X / 22mm eyepieces and a third eyepiece to adapt or insert a photography camera. The interpupillary distance in IM-2 is 48-75mm and 50-75mm in IM-3.
The revolver is quintuple with bidirectional rotation supported on a bearing system. The focusing system is coaxial on both sides of the stand, with macro and micrometric controls. The stage is mechanical 250x160mm with mobile carriage and coaxial control in vertical right position. The stage of the stage is 114x81mm. The equipment allows several metal plates as accessories, to be able to work with different sample containers.
The targets are achromatic IOS PLAN LWD , infinitely corrected. They differ from each other for observation in bright field, for phase contrast or fluorescence . They are all anti-fungal treated. They incorporate 4X, 10X, 20X, 40X and 50X lenses in the case of the metallurgist.
The condenser is AN 0.30 type on all models, with a working distance of 72mm. This condenser can be removed to increase the working distance up to 150mm.
Illumination is the most complex feature of this series of microscopes. All of them incorporate lighting transmitted with the X-LED8 system of 8W white led lighting. This system integrates the light intensity control.
Incident illumination depends directly on the type of model and the use or purpose of the microscope.
In the IM-2 and IM-3 models the lighting is transmitted with the X-LED8 pre-centered system.
In the inverted models for fluorescence, the X-LED8 transmitted lighting and the incident lighting by epi-fluorescence coexist, thanks to the HBO 100W high pressure mercury bulb system. In the IM-3LD model only, this incident lighting for epi-fluorescence is generated by an 18W LED system.
Fluorescence models incorporate the epi-fluorescence filter set , usually blue (Blue) 460-490nm and green (Green) 480-550nm. There are optional UV and V filters. For bright field, they incorporate the IF550 interference green filter and the blue LBD filter.
