More information

ZWO makes one of the best CCD cameras for astronomy available to the customer. The ASI 1600 camera offers multiple options depending on the type of photography the observer wants to take.
  • Thus we have availability in monochrome and color versions for planetary, solar and lunar photography.
  • Refrigerated version for deep sky photography, also available in monochrome and color.
The 16mpx Sony 4/3 "CMOS sensor (4656 x 3520 pixels) has a pixel size of 3.8 microns and extremely low read noise, rated at -3.5e. Speed is 15 frames / second at 12 bit resolution.
The non-refrigerated version is recommended for photography, planetary, solar and lunar. Especially efficient when these objects are in motion, here is the value of the capture speed.
The refrigerated version is designed to be able to take long-exposure astronomical photography, therefore in the deep sky. A functionality that is used to overheating the interior of the chamber and therefore it is necessary to compensate the internal temperature. With this thermoelectric cooling system it is possible to decrease by -40 / -45ºC and thus the working time with the camera can be increased.
It incorporates a standard ST4 port and USB 3.0 with 2m cable. It also incorporates a T2 M42 inlet thread, then a converter goes from this thread to 31.7mm for the filter cap.
The CD with the corresponding software and drives for the use of the Camera are also provided. The ASCOM driver for this camera is available. However, it requires the prior installation of the ZWO SDK (Software Development Kit), downloadable free of charge on its website.
For the acquisition of planetary videos, it includes free software FireCapture , by Torsten Edelmann, which natively supports ZWO cameras.
